PlexArt TextArt Poetry Reading

PlexArt TextArt, an evening at The Mockbee of poetry, text-related art, performance, and music, will open its doors at 7 p.m.  The poetry reading will start at 7:30 or 8 pm downstairs.  If you are a vendor at the Saturday Fair and would like to read or have one of your authors read, you can sign up by sending an email to cincysmallpressfest (at) gmail (dot com), or calling the phone number listed in the contact info.  Or, if you want to come to The Mockbee when doors open & see if there is room on the reading list, you can do that, too.

Call For Visual Work

The organizers of PlexArt, a monthly Final Friday art show at The Mockbee, are seeking work by contemporary artists that incorporates textual, linguistic, or print-related elements for a juried, one-night exhibition on September 30, 2011 called “PlexArt / TextArt”.  The exhibition is part of the two-day Cincinnati Small Press Festival.  Work can be in any size or medium, from 2-D to 3-D to digital/video work to book art to sound sculptures to performance and beyond.  Send digital documentation of proposed work (images as .jpg or .tif, please) with description—limit is five works. 

        Submission Checklist:
  1. Name & Contact info.
  2. Digital documentation of proposed work.
  3. A list of proposed works (limit 5) indicating titles, size, medium, date of composition.
  4. Narrative description of work being proposed.
  5. Sales info. – NFS or price for each work.
  6. Artist statement not to exceed 500 words. 
Send submission to: William R. Howe at with the subject line reading “art submission.”  There is no fee for submission, but the artist is responsible for shipping/drop-off/pick-up of accepted work.  Deadline for submissions is September 15, 2011.  Notification by email will be no later than September 20.  Deadline for drop-off of accepted works will be between noon and 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28.  Pick-up after the exhibition will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Festival Organizers Seek Proposals for Workshops & Presentations

Festival organizers Bill and Lisa Howe are seeking proposals from people interested in presenting a relevant workshop, lecture, and/or panel discussion.  There are a very limited number of slots available, and we anticipate receiving more proposals than there will be slots.  Proposals are due September 1, 2011.  Organizers will respond to all proposals before September 15, 2011.  Send proposals to:

Proposal Tips:

1.  Include a brief but clear description & timeline of your proposed program.  It should last not less than 45 minutes but no more than 60 minutes.

2.  Include any sample materials/information that you may already have so that organizers will get a better idea about the substance of the presentation.

3.  Include a list of people to be included in your program, including yourself (if applicable).

4.  Include any other information or materials--for example, handouts--that you think will convey the interest and value of your program.
